چکیده

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) plans to operate as a heavy ion collider for one month each year starting in 2007. LHC will be capable of accelerating a variety of ions up to beam energies of 7 TeV/charge. The design, peak and three-hour-fill-averaged luminosities are presented in Table 1 along with the maximum center of mass energy[1]. The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) [2] experiment is a general-purpose facility to study

Jet Physics in Heavy Ion Collisions with Compact Muon Solenoid detector at the LHC

The status of CMS jet simulations and physics analysis in heavy ion collisions is presented. Jet reconstruction and high-pT particle tracking in the high multiplicity environment of heavy ion collisions at the LHC using the CMS calorimetry and tracking system are described. The Monte Carlo tools used to simulate jet quenching are discussed.

Physics with Jets at the Lhc ∗

The CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is designed to study pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV and luminosity of 10cms. The GHz collision rate with 20 interactions per 25 ns bunch crossing places unprecedented demands on detector performance. This report will concentrate on jet physics anticipated from the two big general purpose detectors, a toroidal large hadron collider apparat...

Triggering on Hard Probes in Heavy-Ion Collisions with the CMS Experiment at the LHC

Studies of heavy-ion collisions at the LHC will benefit from an array of qualitatively new probes not readily available at lower collision energies. These include fully formed jets at ET > 50 GeV, Z0’s and abundantly produced heavy flavors. For Pb+Pb running at LHC design luminosity, the collision rate in the CMS interaction region will exceed the available bandwidth to store data by several or...

Heavy Ion Physics at Lhc

The study of heavy ion interactions constitutes an important part of the experimental program outlined for the Large Hadron Collider under construction at CERN and expected to be operational by 2006. ALICE 1 is the single detector having the capabilities to explore at the same time most of the characteristics of high energy heavy ion interactions. Specific studies of jet quenching and quarkonia...

Study of heavy ion collisions with the CMS detector

In this presentation, I report on the suitability of the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) detector for the study of heavy ion collisions at the CERN LHC. This detector, designed for pp physics, can be used for the search for the phase transition from nuclear matter to a quark-gluon plasma predicted by lattice QCD calculations. In particular, the production of the Υ family mesons, the characteristics...
